Sports
Pilots were expected to stay in good physical form, and while daily workouts were a part of this, a more enjoyable form of exercise came in the form of sports. Some popular sports around the station were basketball, volleyball, handball, tennis, fastball, and bordenball. There were courts and fields for these sports around the station, but the pilots also participated in local sports leagues.
The Abbotsford and Services Fastball League had 3 teams from the station in it, containing staff, civilians, and pilots. That same league also had teams from the army, navy, and the town of Abbotsford itself. There was also a women’s fastball team, although it is unclear if they had their own specific league. Some of these fastball games were even played in Jubilee Park, a location that will be familiar to most in Abbotsford. The station basketball team even went across the border to play against US teams, all this happening while the border became more and more strict during wartimes.
